
Gastromasa, one of the world’s leading gastronomy gatherings, will celebrate its 10th anniversary on 6–7 November 2025 at the Haliç Congress Center in Istanbul under the theme “Stories of 10 Years.” Among the distinguished speakers is Mitsuharu ‘Micha’ Tsumura, the Peruvian chef of Japanese descent who has become one of the most influential figures in global gastronomy.
WHO IS MITSUHARU TSUMARA?
Mitsuharu ‘Micha’ Tsumura is a Peruvian chef of Japanese descent and one of the most influential figures in global gastronomy. His cuisine masterfully blends the culinary traditions of Peru and Nikkei culture, resulting in a personal, creative and distinctive style. His restaurant Maido, in Lima, is his most emblematic project. Opened 15 years ago, Maido has been recognised as the Best Restaurant in Peru for six consecutive years and has topped the Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants ranking in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2023. In June 2025, Maido achieved the highest accolade by being named Best Restaurant in the World by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. In 2024, Micha received the Chef’s Choice Award from The World’s 50 Best, voted entirely by chefs, and was awarded 3 Knives in The Best Chef Awards, the highest category on this list.
Micha is one of the most prominent figures in Peruvian cuisine, acting as its ambassador around the world. Beyond Maido, he leads other projects such as Tori (Lima), Mai Mai (Panama), Karai by Mitsuharu (Chile) and is the creator of the Salsas MT product line in Peru, which will soon be available in the United States and Europe. He is the author of the book Nikkei es Perú and participated as a consultant on the Netflix documentary Perú, tesoro escondido. Micha is a restless chef and explorer who honours his roots while propelling Peruvian cuisine onto the international stage with passion, technique and innovation.
