Gastromasa, one of the most prestigious gatherings in the world of gastronomy, is preparing to celebrate its 10th anniversary this year with the theme “Stories of 10 Years.” Taking place on November 6–7, 2025, at the Haliç Congress Center, this special year will feature Janice Wong, one of Asia’s top pastry chefs and founder of 2am:dessertbar.
Janice Wong, Singapore-born award-winning chef and artist, is known for pushing the boundaries of desserts and edible art. She opened 2am:dessertbar in 2007 and later founded Janice Wong Pure Imagination, expanding into chocolates and ice cream. With international projects in Macau, Incheon, and Berlin, she has also showcased large-scale edible art installations. Twice named Asia’s Best Pastry Chef, Wong continues to combine creativity with ethical chocolate production through her Pure Bean to Bar project.
Who is Janice Wong?
Born in Singapore, Janice Wong stumbled upon the culinary world during a trip to Australia. Pushing the boundaries of traditional desserts, chocolate, and pastry making, Wong trained under world-renowned chefs such as Thomas Keller, Grant Achatz, Oriol Balaguer, and Pierre Hermé.
In 2007, Wong opened her first dessert restaurant, 2am:dessertbar, in Singapore. In 2014, she established a formal company under the name Janice Wong Pure Imagination to market a wide range of products, including specialty chocolate bonbons, cakes, and ice cream. This brand has expanded to three stores in Singapore.
Notable international collaborations include Janice Wong MGM in Macau, the Paradise Group in Incheon, South Korea, and KaDeWe in Berlin. Janice Wong’s first solo exhibition at Huis Ten Bosch in Nagasaki featured her signature edible artworks. Recently, she collaborated with the Western Australian Art Gallery to create her largest-scale edible art installation to date. She was named Asia’s Best Pastry Chef by the prestigious San Pellegrino Asia’s 50 Best in 2013 and 2014. Additionally, Janice Wong won the Pastry Chef of the Year title at the World Gourmet Summit Awards in 2011, 2013, and 2015; in 2012, she was named Young Woman of the Year by Her World magazine.
Wong also has projects called Pure Imagination and Pure Bean to Bar. In Pure Imagination, one can see Janice’s culinary artistry and creative vision. This brand includes products such as 2am:dessertbar, Janice Wong Singapore, Pure Bean to Bar, and Gelato Janice Wong. The flavors are presented not just as desserts but as visual and experiential art forms, where technique, craftsmanship, and creative storytelling merge within the dessert concepts.
Another of Janice Wong’s projects is Pure Bean to Bar. Demonstrating her commitment to ethical chocolate production, Wong works closely with cacao farmers around the world through direct trade partnerships. She collaborates with producers from Colombia’s Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta region, Thailand’s Chumphon province, various regions in the Philippines, and Indonesia’s Sumba Island, creating single-origin chocolates that reflect the unique flavor profiles of each terroir.
