Who is João Rodrigue?

João Rodrigues is one of Portugal’s most recognized and influential chefs, a pioneer in valuing local products and producers, known for his commitment to sustainability and gastronomic excellence. For 13 years, he led a Michelin-starred kitchen, creating a style
that places ingredients — and those who produce them — at the heart of the experience.
Founder of Projeto Matéria, Residência, and Canalha, João reinvents Portuguese gastronomy, connecting tradition, biodiversity, and culture, while raising awareness of issues such as land desertification and the loss of traditional know-how.
All these projects are part of Grupo Monda, and João Rodrigues is now preparing a new authorial and disruptive project, set to open in April 2026, the result of his identity and years of work.
