La Faraona wine has enjoyed great success, scoring 100 not once but twice for its 2014 and 2018 wines from Robert Parker, one of the world-renowned wine critics.

Bodegas Descendientes de J. Palacios’s La Faraona wine, operated by Alvaro Palacios and Roberto Pérez Palacios, and located in Bierzo, Spain, achieved a great success. Accompanying the success previously achieved by Pingus in Spain, they received 100 points, not once, but twice for 2014 and 2018 wines from Robert Parker, one of the world’s most important wine critics, which evaluated wines on a 100-point system.

La Faraona 2014 initially received 100 points in Parker’s The Wine Advocate. The wine is made primarily from Mencía grapes and with a smaller portion (3%) of white grapes. It was described as “stratospheric” by Parker’s taster in Spain, Luis Gutiérrez, according to, and on the palate it’s balanced and it has a long finish. It’s also worth highlighting that the 2015 vintage received 99 points.

La Faraona wines are made with grapes grown on a very small plot measuring less than half a hectare. The vines are 72 years old and located on a steep slope around 800 to 860 meters in altitude. According to Parker, the wine “has a freshness and lightness but also lots of energy and light. It has a great purity, a very strong sense of place, and it encapsulates the humid slopes of Corullón like no other. [It’s] nothing short of amazing.”
