The Michelin Guide has announced the 2022 stars for Italy, and with 35 new stars, it has reached the highest number of Michelin-starred restaurants in Italian history! More than half of the chefs who received stars this year are under the age of 35. According to Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, the future of Italian gastronomy is in good hands!

At the ceremony, which was broadcast live with the participation of the chefs, the stars were presented to their owners. A total of 329 restaurants received stars, 33 of which were for the first time. Two restaurants were awarded their second Michelin star. No new three Michelin-starred restaurants were added, but existing restaurants conuitnued to retain their stars. This year, 17 restaurants were awarded the Michelin Green Star and the number of these restaurants increased to 30. Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, said that it is exciting that most of the chefs who have won a Michelin star are young chefs, “The culinary standards are still really high, and this year, Italy achieved the highest number of starred restaurants ever reached. We can be very confident fort he future when we see all these blooming young talents.”

Italy currently has 378 stars. 11 of these restaurants have three Michelin stars. The number of restaurants with two Michelin stars increased to 38. The biggest increase was in restaurants that earned their first Michelin star. 33 restaurants received their first star, increasing the number of single Michelin starred restaurants in the country to 329. Michelin Guide also presented its special awards to its owners. The 2022 Michelin Sommelier Award presented by the Brunello di Montalcino Wine Consortium has been awarded to Sonja Egger from Kuppelrain. The 2022 Michelin Room Service Award presented by Intrecci was given to Matteo Zappile from Il Pagliaccio. The winner of the 2022 Michelin Young Chef Award presented by Lavazza was Solaika Marrocco from Primo Restaurant. Nadia Santini from Dal Pescatore won the Michelin Chef Mentor 2022 Award presented by Blancpain.
