Despite an alarming bounce in coronavirus cases in many leading US cities in recent weeks, such as New York and Detroit, Governor Gavin Newsom said he believes California, the country’s most populous state, may be ready to “fully reopen” by 15 June. Newsom believes that with the further spread of vaccination practices, the state will be able to abolish the tiered reopening plan by June 15.

California aims to fully revive its economy on June 15, more than a year after the COVID-19 epidemic disrupted the lives and jobs of millions of people across the state. Authorities will activate the opening plan in case of adequate vaccine supply and a decrease in hospitals.

California’s health and human services secretary Dr. Mark Ghaly emphasized that, “If we see any concerning rise in our hospitalizations, we will take the necessary precautions. But right now, we are hopeful in what we’re seeing as we continue to build on the 20 million vaccines already administered.”
