Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2022 awards found their owners in Bangkok yesterday. Six restaurants from Tokyo and nine from Bangkok were named the “best” at the award ceremony sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna. DEN restaurant was selected as the best restaurant in both Japan and Asia on the list. Thus, a Japanese restaurant is at the top of the list for the second time after ten years. DEN’s Chef Zaiyu Hasegawa and his team have given a new meaning to the traditional Japanese dish, kaiseki. A true pioneer of contemporary cuisine, DEN offers  Playful and innovative dishes.

Some special awards were also meted out, with South Korean monk Jeong Kwan taking the Icon Award, and Eat and Cook in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, named One to Watch, while Natsuko Shoji from Été in Tokyo won Asia’s Best Female Chef. David Lai from Neighborhood, Hong Kong, picked up the Inedit Damm Chefs’ Choice Award. The Flor de Caña Sustainable Restaurant Award went to Mume, Taipei. The Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award went to Odette, Singapore. And Maira Yeo was named Asia’s Best Pastry Chef.
