Michelin-starred celebrity chef Alain Ducasse says it’s safer to eat in a restaurant than to cook at home.

The French chef, who has a total of 17 Michelin stars, thinks it’s safer to eat at a restaurant where they are trained in food safety protocols rather than going to the supermarket where you risk hitting unmasked people. “It’s better to eat in a restaurant that takes all the precautions than at home where you have to go to your little local supermarket where people are bumping into each other, touching the fruit and not everybody is wearing masks,” the famous French chef explained to Agence France-Presse. The celebrity chef also said the quarantine was “catastrophic” for the food and drink industry and that restaurants should open in a “gradual and responsible” way. When analyzed, supermarkets are turning into a potential virus field, with people’s contact across the supply chain and on shelves. It is estimated that every fruit you buy at the supermarket is processed by at least six people. However, usually, food in a restaurant is delivered directly from the manufacturer, so it cuts the number of people who come into contact. And chefs have high food safety training that will serve the product in front of the customer without pathogens.
