Niko Romito, the world-renowned Italian chef with 3 Michelin stars, explained to Foodinlife his thoughts about the coronavirus outbreak and the future.

“As a citizen and as a man I participate with anxiety and pain in what is happening in our country and in the world and I feel powerless and inert, although confident in our values and in the strength of all of us united under our flag.

As a cook and as an entrepreneur I feel neglected in my heart and mind in this forced inactivity that does not belong to me as it does not belong to our entire nation. These days are days of a deep reflection related to my projects and also the future in general which I see as more and more focused on the wellbeing of people and the entire planet, respecting the nature and its laws, studying into depth the natural ingredients, their flavours and equilibrium. I always thought that the cuisine of the future is not meant to be there for itself, simply to express the creative ego of a chef, but has to become an instrument of education and knowledge that is shared, not limited to a few. This moment, which is signing an important page in the history of the world, is teaching us that without collaboration between men, personal success, however great, has no value. I am sure that we will rediscover things that we did not know we could do, values that we could no longer find ….. first of all that of solidarity and I am sure that we will be able to build a better future for businesses and humanity as a whole.”
