Nieves Barragán Mohacho

Nieves Barragán Mohacho grew up in Bilbao, in the Basque region of Spain, and from an early age was familiar with the region’s products and cuisine.

Nieves came to London in 1998, where he worked as executive chef in various restaurants. Mohacho, who worked as the executive chef of both Finı and Barrafina for ten years, won a Michelin Star with Barrafina Frith Street in 2014.

In February 2018, Nieves opened Sabor on Heddon Street in London with Jose Etura, and in October 2018 the restaurant received its first Michelin star just eight months after opening; This star has preserved to this day. Award-winning Sabor’s other achievements:

2018: Selected as AA Restaurant of the Year. Placed 2nd in the National Restaurant Awards; since then Sabor has remained in the Top 15. Nieves won the National Restaurant Awards “Chef of the Year” award. That same year, Nieves was listed in the London Evening Standard’s Progress 1000 list as one of “London’s most influential tastemakers”.

2019: Nieves was named one of FT Magazine’s 2019 Women of the Year. The successful chef has been included in CODE Hospitality’s quarterly list of ‘100 most influential women in the hospitality industry’, published every year since 2019. Sabor won the ‘Best Breakthrough’ award at the 2019 GQ Food & Drink Awards 2019.

At Barrafina, Nieves won the 2014 Michelin Star, the 2015 GQ Best Chef Award, the 2015 Barrafina Adelaide Street – National Restaurant Awards Best Restaurant and the 2016 Barrafina Adelaide Street – Observer Food Monthly Best Restaurant.
