Pía León was born in Lima, Peru, became the pride of Latin America and is the current ambassador of Peruvian gastronomy in the world. Since she was a child she knew what her vocation was, what she enjoyed the most was cooking, eating and sharing with her family around the table. These experiences motivated her to develop her passion. Her career began at a very young age, she graduated from Le Cordon Bleu institute, worked at the Ritz Hotel in New York, at Astrid and Gaston in Lima, and worked her way up to become head chef, for more than ten years accompanying and working hand in hand with her partner Virgilio Martinez at Central, one of the best known and most reputable restaurants in South America and the world. In August 2018 León opened his first restaurant called -Kjolle- named after a hardy tree from the Andean highlands. His goal, to valorize Peruvian ingredients through a seven-step tasting menu, a colorful menu with authentic flavors. His motto is that diners “can learn about Peruvian biodiversity”. On the other hand, he and his team have created a research group that seeks to understand the origin of local products from different regions of the country. This center is called Mater and is located in Cusco, and it is from there that the new flavors proposed in the menus of his restaurants come from.
