Born in Barcelona in 1974, Oriol Castro is one of the most pioneering and influential chefs in contemporary gastronomy. From 1996 until the closure in 2011, he was part of the legendary elBulli creative team, working alongside Ferran Adrià to develop groundbreaking culinary techniques and experiences that reshaped modern cuisine.
In 2012, together with Eduard Xatruch and Mateu Casañas, he founded his own projects, starting with Compartir Cadaqués (2012), followed by the iconic Disfrutar Barcelona (2014). Disfrutar quickly rose to global acclaim: it earned its first Michelin star within its opening year, later reached three stars, and in 2024 was named the Best Restaurant in the World by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
Castro’s culinary philosophy is defined by technical mastery, creative playfulness, and a profound respect for Mediterranean ingredients. The tasting menus at Disfrutar offer diners an emotional journey of up to 30 courses, blending precision with surprise and innovation.
Beyond his role as chef, Oriol Castro is also engaged in gastronomic consultancy (Csult Edorma), the production of wines and signature beverages under the CXC brand, and the publication of books such as Compartir and Disfrutar Vol. I & II. With his Barcelona-based projects and international presence, he continues to be recognized as a leading voice shaping the global culinary stage.
